Yay! We have our groups!

First of all, we finally got our t-shirts! woooo

Then we had to choose the groups, WHAT A PALAVAR!

Last week everyone taking part in World Challenge had a meeting in which we wrote down 4 names of people who we wouldn't mind being in a group with. The teachers would take that into consideration and we would ' most probably' go in a group with them; I put down my best friend Karen and then 3 other people who I wouldn't mind being with.

Yesterday, we got put into our groups in our meeting after school and I was sooo excited  throughout the whole school day to find out who I was put with. Obviously, I thought I would be in a group with Karen as all the teachers know we are best friends, she was first on my list and you know, I just assumed. Well I was wrong! They didn't put me with her and I was in a group with one of the boys I wrote on my list and then 18 other people. I was devastated that I wasn't with Karen so I wanted to change. But the group I was put in was SO good and everyone was so amazingly friendly, it was such a shame but I left that group and went into the other one with Karen and the rest of the people on my list so again I'm happy! It was a lose:win situation.

So once we were in our groups we had to decide what sort of trek we wanted to do, what activity we wanted to do for our R&R (rest and relaxation) and where abouts in Zambia we wanted to end up.  I thought there would be arguments/ a lot of disagreements but nope, it was so much easier than I thought it would be!

Our plan:
Straight away we all decided we wanted to work with children and build either an orphanage or a school. We still haven't completly decided what sort of trek we want to do as a few of the group want to do a long 8 day hard one where as some others (including myself) would prefer to do a 5 day easyish/medium level. So that is yet to be decided!
For our R&R we are hoping to go on a Safari and to the amazing Victoria Falls! (Amazing, right?!)

I'll keep you posted!

My Story

So, Its February 2012 and I am leaving for World Challenge in July 2013, approximately 17 months.
Question: Am I ready? Answer: No!

As soon as I heard about World Challenge, I knew that I wanted to take part. What an amazing experience?! I am aware that this is going to be extremely hard, I have been warned by a few people who have been on World Challenge before but there is no way I will get this opportunity again so why miss it, right?

There are plenty of things I need to think about:

  • Fundraising:
I must have forgot to mention that World Challenge is NOT a holiday, I have to raise £3500 to go (which doesn't include my fun activities while I'm out there or camp equipment). So I have to think of many fundraising ideas to raise the money! So far I have thought of the simple basics:
  • bag packing
  • babysitting
  • cake sales
  • discos
So fund-raising ideas would be very much appreciated! Please and thankyou's!

  • Commitment:
Signing myself up for World Challenge is one thing, but actually going through with it is a whole different story! To raise the £3500, I have made a target to raise at least £100 a month to make it easier in the long run.
I am also saving up every £2 coin I get and put it in a piggy bank! At the end of every month I will put that collection into my bank.

Its going to be hard work, but I will do it! Im looking forward to keeping you all posted,

love
